Rare vintage circa 1940s red cotton uniform shirt made the famous firemen's equipment company Cairns & Brother. The shirt features a bib front and cuffs that require removable uniform buttons, one regular button at the front of the collar, and a sleeve patch from a fire department in Rome, NY. This style of shirt was worn by firemen in the 1800s, and continued to be produced for volunteer firemen, likely as parade uniforms. We believe this item is from the late 1940s/early 1950s because Cairns & Brother moved to New Jersey from New York in 1945, and switched to making primarily helmets in the 1960s. A museum-worthy piece of firefighting history!
